LG Ally Android phone hands-on demo

LG unveiled the LG Ally (Aloha) to press today in New York City, and we had a chance to go hands on with the new Android phone. The LG Ally is a good mid-range Android phone. It runs Android 2.1 and has a 5-megapixel camera, and onboard maps so you don’t need a data connection to get GPS map navigation.

Google Confirms Android 2.2 Will Support Flash – …

Google’s Andy Rubin revealed that the upcoming version of the Android mobile operating system will fully support Flash technology. Code named Froyo, Rubin says Google’s definition of openness “means not being militant about the things consumers are actually enjoying.” The guys go on to discuss the fact that an ad-sponsored Twitter will be the death of the free service. Would you pay for Twitter? Kevin, maybe; Alex, no way.

Learn about power consumption and battery life on Android devices

San Francisco Android User Group hosted an event on March 30th, 2010 with Frank Maker, Eric Jung, and Yichuan Wang, a trio of very smart PhD students, who shared what they’ve learned about power consumption / battery life on mobile/Android devices in their years of research.

Specifically, they talked about:

Mobile Architecture – Talk about differences with desktop/laptop computers, where power goes, etc.

Measuring Power/Energy – difference between energy and power, battery technology, why the problem isn’t going away anytime soon

Software Optimizations – different ideas you can use to lower the power consumption of your application.
